George

George is situated in the centre of the Garden Route. This town is known as one of the fast developing towns in South Africa, and based on the growth over the past ten years, is expected to develop into a secondary city within the next decade. George is a major tourist destination, and is viewed as the gateway to the garden route through its upgraded airport and the Outeniqua pass. The town has a well established industrial business sector which provides many jobs, and contributes enormously to the local economy. George is world renowned for its golf courses and golf estates, such as Fancourt, Kingswood, Oubaai, Le Grand, George Golf course, and Pinnacle Point in Mosselbay. Because of its location, George is a popular distribution centre for both governmental and non-governmental goods and services. Forestry, farming, light industries and tourism form the basis of the local economy. George has excellent government primary and high schools, private schools, and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

The town's two major beaches are Victoriabay and Heroldsbay. Victoriabay is about 10 km from George, and Heroldsbay 20 km. Wilderness is also a 15 minute drive, and the beautiful Kaaimansriver only a 10 minute drive.

The Outeniqua mountains and abundance of rivers provide for family activities such as Outeniqua power van trips, Quad biking, forest tours, walking trails, cycling / mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, jogging.
